This is the Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept, which will officially be unveiled at the Tokyo motor display next month.

The Subaru concept acquire s striking gullwing execute ors, while it has been designed to be as aerodynamic as possible with a shining , airy interior.

Inside, it acquire s a luxurious interior with four individual seats covered in a mesh material similar to those seen in the Ford Iosis Max concept at Geneva earlier this year.

Its hybrid powertrain powers all four wheels and it consists of a 2.0-litre horizontally opposed direct injection turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors â€" a 10kw one at the front, and a 20kw one at the rear. It employ s lithium-ion batteries.

At low speeds, the rear electric motor is primarily employ d to boost efficiency, while the conventional engine is employ d at motorway and cruising speeds.

Under acceleration, the rear electric motor supports the petrol engine to provide increased performance. The front motor is mainly employ d to assist on hills.

A cease -start system also features to boost economy, as execute es regenerative braking. Full details of the concept will be revealed at the Tokyo motor display .
