| New Porsche 911 (997) Turbo S Coming Next Year? August 27, 2009 at 11:03 pm |
| Rumors are flying, and you know the old saying; "where there's smoke, there's fire," so this may become reality. According to sources at Team Speed, Porsche is working on a new 911 Turbo S for next year. Considering Porsche has yet to create a 997 Turbo S, this is really big news.
Word is, Porsche is shooting for a Spring, 2010 launch for the 997.5 Turbo S. Considering the new 911 Turbo now sports a 3.8 liter powerplant (opposed to 3.6) the Turbo S would most likely be an "even better" 911 Turbo with all the typical Turbo bells and whistles as opposed to the more spartan, race-bred GT2 and GT3. So far, most are guessing at a horsepower rating somewhere in the 540-550 HP neighborhood.

| MINI Coupe Concept Revealed with 34 Hi-Res Photos August 27, 2009 at 10:04 pm |
| Yesterday, MINI celebrated it's 50th anniversary. Marking such a major milestone, it is only appropriate that MINI ushers in the next 50 years with a glimpse at the future of their automobiles. This, is the MINI Coupe (or Coupé, if you want to be fancy) Concept. A subtle departure from the MINI Cooper we've grown to love, with a sporty flair and a few added ponies under the hood.
I spent a fair amount of time reading various comments left about the car on a few of the more popular automotive websites. From what I can tell, the general public concensus on the MINI Coupe's styling is one of love or hate, with little in between. Personally, I fall in between. Yes, the Coupe certainly appears to be more of a "sports car" at first glance, however after a few minutes of studying the pictures (below), I find that it's still a MINI Cooper, with a swept windscreen and different roof. Actually, I found that the interior styling is my favorite aspect of the car, with it's retro/spartan configuration and "catchers glove" leather interior, I think it's a great look. Other than that, you can count me in the "meh" category.
Styling aside, the MINI Coupe will feature a 211 horsepower, 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine producing 192 lb/ft of torque. One interesting note is that the MINI Coupe features an "Overboost" function which gives a brief boost in torque, reaching 206 lb/ft.
MINI has decided to create, quite possibly, the longest press release in automobile history for the Coupe Concept. So I'll spare you. To be honest, I just skimmed it and pulled out what I thought was the good stuff. If you want to read the whole thing, click here.
